Best Days To Meal Prep

By December 29, 2021 March 17th, 2022 No Comments

You can meal prep in different ways. Sometimes it means creating a meal plan, and other times that means preparing a variety of ingredients that can be combined into various dishes quickly and easily.

While single-serve meals are the most common meal prep, there are other types to choose from depending on your schedule, tastes and dietary needs.

Types of meal prep meals include:

  • Full make-ahead meals: Cook an entire meal and store it in your fridge or freezer.
  • Batch cooking or freezing: Make multiple meals, then portion and store them. This approach is useful for recipes you can easily cook in large amounts.
  • Meals for one: Prepare food and portion it in single-serving containers. (Usually enough to last a few days.)
  • Ingredient prep: For people who like to cook and serve food all at once, just prep parts of recipes. Chop veggies, mix spices or marinade meat in advance to save time when you’re ready to cook.

Why Should you Meal Prep?

Learning how to meal prep will save you time, but it also saves money and reduces waste. Unlike processed meals, this method gives you total control over what goes in your food which is perfect for anyone who wants to stay on track with their health goals.

What Are The Best Days To Prep?

You can’t meal prep without prep time. Schedule one to two days per week to prep your meals. If you can multitask a little by using your oven and stovetop to prep more than one food at once, you’ll cut down on time even more.

Even though there is no single rule on when you should meal prep, most people find Sundays to be the best day. Most people are off of work and can prep food to get their week started off on the right foot. If you are freezing your meals then you can prep enough to get you through to the following Sunday. If you are keeping your food fresh then you should prep a second batch later in the week. The best day to do your second meal prep is Wednesday. This just over halfway through the 5 day work week, and you can finish your week off with fresh food, and start over Sunday.

The most important thing about meal prep is not the days you do it, it is planning for the prep itself. Make sure you have everything you need, and set aside the time to get it done.
