5 Reasons Why Running Can Lift Your Mood

By October 14, 2021 December 29th, 2021 No Comments

Running is an activity that is not only great exercise, it’s also something that can help improve your mental state. Even if you only run short distances, you will experience a lift in your mood, and here are 5 reasons why:

Running is empowering

As with anything else, the more you do it, the better you will become. The more you run, the more you will realize that you are improving all the time, which gives you momentum to take on even greater tasks It’s about reinforcing to yourself that you CAN get that extra mile in, and not just with running. Improving your running will improve your attitude, and that will allow you to be more aware of what you can achieve in all walks of life.

You can reach your goals

When you start running, a trainer would set a goal for you. They would set one that is just a touch out of your reach. This allows you to start slowly but still have to push yourself to reach that goal. As with other areas of your life, when you achieve that goal you get a rush and you will want to reach the next goal, and then the next one. This will give you that confidence you need to move forward in different aspects of your life, all while living a happy life.

It’s a Social Thing

When you start running, try joining a local running group, or schedule your runs to coincide with your friends. The support you can get from these groups of people, and other runners, is amazing and motivating. This could also lead to bonding and new friendships which will heighten your mood.

The “Runner’s High”

Running is an exercise that releases endorphins into your system, creating the “runner’s high”. Endorphins are a hormone that gives us a feeling of euphoria. Coupled with all of the other mental benefits of running, this euphoria will definitely put you in a great frame of mind.

Improving Your Self-Esteem

Many people have found that when they start running, especially in addition to other exercise routines, they found that increased self-esteem and confidence were a bonus. All of the above factors, along with the general feeling of being able to do more and go further than before, allows your body and mind to be happier and healthier. When you run and improve your physical state, you are also improving your mental state, which allows you to get ahead in life.
